Using the textures for realistic looking lands

Setting up the basics

Bevor you can start with the texturing, you need to set up a basic texture.

In other words you have to replace the standart grid texture with wheter a mud, a sand or a rock texture.

How to paint the whole map with one texture is explained in the Texturing Tutorial.

Detailed Texturing

To display realistic looking lands you need more, than one texture for every vegetation.

You can't just use one gras texture to fill a whole even, because it would look stupid and boring and absolutely not realistic.

But with some little tricks there should be no problem with this.

Grass

In order to paint nice gras, you select your gras layer and go to the properties.

There you set the Tapering to 50% and the Strength to 5%.

Then set the Radius depending on the width of the ground you want to paint.

If you want to paint a small ground, then use 10-20% and if you want to paint a huge ground, then use 60-80%.

Just give it a try and find the best way for yourself. Now paint the gras over the basic texture like in the image below.

image:texturing1.jpgThe basic texture is brown mud.

Remember to color the gras texture after you applied it to the area. You will find color codes further down here.

You can use different colors on one gras area, but make sure not to take to much different colors and the colors should be not to far away of the first color. E.g. your first color is dark green and your second color is neongreen, it would look stupid.

Sand/Beach

For the sand texture it is like for the gras texture, but with the difference that the sand texture has to be paint 100% near the sea and it's concentration lowers when you paint away from the sea.

To paint a realistic looking beach you should make use of height levels.
